Schooling 2015-2016
The NGO Jeunes Actifs pour le Développement (JADE) launched in 2009 a project to help with the schooling of disadvantaged children in the villages of Vatomandry, Ambodisaina and Ambodimanga, which was later extended to the EPP FANARA school this year. The main objective of the project was to financially help families in rural areas to educate their children. The NGO carried out a preliminary survey to discuss the feasibility of the project and selected the beneficiaries in consultation with village officials. The project then resulted in the payment of school fees and school supplies for the selected children, with a written commitment from parents to comply with the NGO's follow-up requirements. The project also aimed to encourage children to persevere in their studies based on a system of merit and excellence. Ambodisaina - October 10, 2015
Distribution of school supplies at EPP Ambodisaina by the NGO JADE in 2015. The distribution session took place in the presence of EPP representatives, the parents of scholarship students and a few of the students themselves. The Ambodisaina fokontany is a rural municipality located less than 5 km from the city of Tamatave, in the suburban area of Toamasina II. Inhabitants earn on average 70,000 Ariary per month from agriculture and the production and sale of charcoal and ravim-pontsy. The municipality has three public schools and two private schools, and the school enrollment rate for children in the municipality is about 55%, with an enrollment rate for girls of about 60%. Children and teachers have to walk up to 6 km each day to get to school, according to the EPP headmistress.
EPP Fanara - October 12, 2015
The NGO organized a distribution ceremony at EPP Fanara school, attended by 5 members of the organization accompanied by an external collaborator. All the students, the school headmistress, a few teachers and the parents were also present for the occasion. Fanara is a small village located in the Vohitamboro fokontany, about 35 km north of Tamatave. Most of the inhabitants, who mainly grow rice, cassava and bananas, earn on average 40,000 MGA per month. EPP Fanara is one of three schools in the region and has 150 students. It is accessible on foot or by motorbike, as there is no road leading directly to the village.
Ambodimanga II - October 19, 2015
Three members of an NGO traveled overland to Ambodimanga II, stopping in Fénérive-Est to change bush taxis. The distribution of school supplies took place in a classroom in the presence of school representatives, FRAM representatives, a few parents and most of the children. Ambodimanga II is a remote and hard-to-reach fokontany, located about 10 km from Fénérive-Est. The inhabitants, who live mainly from subsistence farming, have a school enrollment rate of about 88%, with a slightly higher enrollment rate for girls. There is only one EPP and one CEG concentrated in the village, which spares the children from having to walk long distances to get to school.
Tsarasambo - October 26, 2015
Two members of the NGO JADE traveled by bush taxi for about 5 hours to get to Tsarasambo, accompanied by an external collaborator. The ceremony for the distribution of school supplies and the payment of FRAM fees took place in the room of EPP Tsarasambo, in the presence of both school headmasters, parents of students and the students themselves. The rural municipality of Tsarasambo is located about 12 kilometers south of Vatomandry, on the east coast of Madagascar. With a population of 2,623 inhabitants and average monthly incomes of about 30,000 Ar per inhabitant in 2011, the main economic activities of the region are fishing and agriculture, notably growing rice, cassava, corn and bananas.
Results of the project for the schooling of children in financial difficulty:
60 children were enrolled in school, with an almost equal distribution between the sexes;
The average age of the scholarship recipients is 9 years and 2 months;
The success rate of our students across all levels combined is 84%;
The children are, to varying degrees, in a situation of financial difficulty for their parents;
We spent 3,467,260 Ariary (990.65 Euros) on the purchase of supplies, the annual school fees and all expenses related to the project;
On average, we had to pay out 57,788 MGA (16.51 €) per child for their schooling for this school year.
