Initiatives Océanes 2015 - Tamatave
As part of environmental protection, the NGO JADE, in collaboration with Surfrider Foundation Europe, based in France, the NGO JADE set up a new edition of the Initiatives Océanes 2015. The event took place on the beach in front of the Jacques Rabemananjara high school, on March 14, 2015, located in the north of the city of Toamasina, Madagascar. The main objective was to raise awareness among the city's youth about the harmful effects of non-biodegradable human waste on the coastline, as well as to clean part of the beach in order to restore it to its natural state. The project also helped to make the NGO JADE and its activities known to the municipal population.
182 people, including 145 high school students from Toamasina, took part in the event and collected about 4 cubic meters of non-biodegradable waste, mainly plastic, on a beach about 500 meters long. The project was accompanied by verbal and audiovisual awareness-raising in several high schools in the city. The NGO JADE spent about 74€ to cover the project's logistical and communication needs, thanks to the generosity of its members.
