The NGO JADE, with its "Environmental Protection" component, and the Union des jeunes agriculteurs (UJA) are working together to raise awareness among local populations about environmental protection on the east coast of Madagascar. The project aims to educate students in peri-urban public schools to adopt more sustainable attitudes towards their ecosystem. The first Green School was created at EPP Ambodimanga II, 10 km from the provincial capital of Analanjirofo, Fénérive-Est, on May 15 and 16, 2018. Green Schools aim to raise students' awareness of environmental protection and encourage them to adopt sustainable ecological practices. To achieve this, teachers have two ecological hand-washing stations, twelve sorting bins and two vegetable gardens to concretely show students how they can protect their environment.
The implementation of the project at EPP Ambodimanga II was carried out by two members of the NGO JADE and 22 members of the UJA, with the participation of EPP representatives, the fokontany chief, the village FRAM representative, parents of scholarship students and the students themselves. The awareness-raising and installation sessions took place in the classrooms and in the courtyard of EPP Ambodimanga II.
