World Geek Day - 2025
In a world where information and communication technologies (ICT) are shaping the future, NGO Jade (Jeunes Actifs pour le Développement) organized, on May 25, 2025 in Toamasina, the fourth edition of World Geek Day. This event aims to democratize access to ICT, raise young people's awareness of digital issues — including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital communication — and reduce the technological divide between Africa and the rest of the world through the use of open source software.
Over half a day, around sixty participants, including 30 beneficiaries of the Viavy Smart 8 program, attended interactive talks led by local experts. The event concluded with the presentation of more than 20 certificates and a networking cocktail, strengthening the community of young digital ambassadors. This initiative was unanimously praised by participants, who are calling for it to continue. World Geek Day in Toamasina thus embodies a concrete, inclusive and educational response to the digital challenges facing Africa.
